Proposal The Whangamata Harbour recommended. This would entail a slipway start, a 'race' to the top of the harbour then back to the wharf to pick something up (a Union Jack flag probably) and then back to the Start position. The race would take between 45 mins and an hour. So perhaps an elimination race followed by a final (top 6?) shoot out. website www.britsatthebeach.co.nz/Register your interest on this forum or Contact Colin info@britsatthebeach.co.nz

I would be into this. Hope to have a faster setup by then. Might even tow it down there with a British car.

We are going to have a show and shine for boats and engines get your best engine out and dress it up a little bit. I am working on prizes for this event. Also we are going to use the same classes the Waikato river race uses plus one other class called Dinghy Pro which is for non production type boats and we will also include seasoned racers as well. This is to give dad and son with outboard from the shed half a chance at winning a prize. I am just working on a format for the racing. There also will be a sponsor prize so if you are keen on been a sponsor please contact me.

We are well into organising our event now. Here are a few Updates for you all. We are having a show and shine for ENGINE and STAND. This will have to be an engine you are not running. So get creative with those stands as we want to create a good display. They will be judged and also peoples choice. We will be running Waikato classes, 41/2 dinghy will be split. dinghy will be production type boats. Dinghy Pro will be all others and seasoned racers, ie raced and won events. Everyone must have a Cell phone on board and all must wear LIFEJACKETS as per RC rules. We are looking for volunteers to help with timing and also driving rescue boats which we have available. There will be an entry fee to be finalised next week. We are looking at 3 one lap races in the morning, each lap is about 2miles, and a 2 lap race in the afternoon. If the weather is good we will also have an around the island race, the Harbour Master will not let us hold this if the weather is marginal. I am also looking for sponsors for this event. Please contact me on 0276085770 if you can help me out. Thank you Andy

Hi All Planing for Brits at the Beach Seagull Race is coming along well. Race day is Saturday October 5th.
Event 1, We are going to have a show and shine. Set up time is between 8am and 9am. These engines will need to stay until 2.30 pm so don't use your race engine. You will be judged on the engine and the stand so get creative. This is an engine show and engines do not have to be original or immaculate. It is a fun event with two prizes one from the judges and one judged by the public. Each engine and stand will need to have your boat number on it. We will have someone looking after the engines so they will be safe.
Event 2 Around the buoys racing. We want to start this event at around 9.30am with a briefing and entry opens from 8.30 or the night before at Whangamata Service Centre from 5.30pm until 7.30pm friday. Bring a beer. Course is approximately 2nms, there will be three starts top of each hour about 5 to 10 mins apart. 3 one lap races and 1 two lap race you will need to collect an envelope every time you go around the top end buoy, for a poker hand draw at prize giving. There will be a man on a boat to hand out cards near by. Classes that we have prizes for are. 2 1/2 dinghy 4 1/2 dinghy amateur (production boats) 4 1/2 dinghy pro Classic Bermudan New bermudan 20 footers Modified Best dressed crew, theme BRITS All engines must use standard seagull parts only except for modified class.
Event 3 is a longer distance trip out around the islands off the beach in front of town this will not be a race just a fun event and will be held after the last race. This is very weather dependant. Please let us know if you are keen to do this event when you enter.
ALL SKIPPERS MUST HAVE A CELL PHONE ON THEM DURING ALL RACING AND ALL SKIPPERS AND CREW MUST WEAR LIFEJACKETS WHEN THEY ARE ON A BOAT AT ALL TIMES as per Environment Waikato Regional Council bylaws. The Harbour Master will be keeping an eye on us.
Prize giving will be at 6.30 at the RSA. They are going to provide a meal for $18 a head, this part of the deal of using the premises. Bar also open and should be wrapped up about 9pm.
Entry fee to all 3 Seagull events, Will be $30 dollars for the boat and skipper will include one meal. Extra meals will need to be paid for when you enter. We need to cover our costs. Any money left over will be donated to our local Coastguard. We will have a couple of private addresses to park your trailers as our Council will Fine you if you park a trailer near the boat ramp without one of there $6 dollar parking permits.
I am still looking for a couple of Volunteers to act as Time keepers and starter. I am also looking for a Sheriff to dish out fines payable to Coastguard Whangamata.
Also I have a couple of Dinghies available if you only want to bring your engine and not a boat but you will need to contact me ASAP and be here Friday arvo to collect them.
Please note this event is going to be held on an outgoing tide so a pair of oars is essential or an anchor.
My phone number is 0276085770 feel free to contact my after 6.30 pm to answer any questions.
Please let me know ASAP if you are coming to our event and what you want to enter in so we can plan catering etc. I will post more information as it comes to hand Cheers Andy Murray
