Back in 2012 the 'Shorts' hosted a run on Lake Ohakuri, but, they will not be hosting a run this year What's the thought on sorting a new run? Either Lake Ohakuri or Lake Whakamaru. Maybe April / May / June

Back around 2005 we launched at River Road, but, that's a dodgey place to leave a vehicle
Can you launch further up?

I went and had a look at the ramp there and it's pretty good , I don't plan on leaving vehicle there but youd park on the road and ask a friendly local to keep an eye on it . it isn't Rotorua you know !lol Although there is a ramp further up on the other side I haven't found it . and if you go much further up stream you get rapids . the flow is quite strong for the first half of the trip so time wise it should be good . The thing to do would be to set up camp at the finish and transport multiple boats per trailer and have people drive the cars back and stop to meet us for a lunch break perhaps .

There's a campsite of sorts on Lake Whakamaru. Has anybody know anything about this?

Why not stay in Mangakino and do Whakamaru during the day. The hospitality was awesome

Hotels, motels, camping, they are all good as long as there is safe overnight parking. I'd better get my new project finished quick and on the water for testing.

Picked up a Fleetline Fleetfish ( similar to a Laser but different chine) and cut out alot of the deck. Almost got the motor set up, and made a start on seating. Next thing is steering. I have a mental picture of how it will look and I'm working out the details as I go. All very amateur but I reckon it will work.

We would like to go to Ohakuri, BUT it is to close to the Lake Whakamaru run. I see the third weekend in June has been assigned to Lake Wakamaru.

What's the detail on the Whakamaru run?
Is Whakamaru replacing Maraetai this year?
Maybe would August be a better time for Ohakuri?

My though was to launch boats in whakamaru day 1 and do that lake either from Atiamuri Dam to lake or a up there and back trip, then maybe a round the buoys type racerace on Mangakino for the second day. We have stayed at Mangakino and accomadation and food was good so no reason why we should not go back there.

Ross has put forward yet another great proposal
Set the date to tie in with the Mystery Creek Field-days. People could check-out the Field-days on the Wed/Thurs/Fri, Then on the Sat/Sun do the Seagulling. That would make the weekend of the 15th & 16th June
We could stay at Mangakino to take advantage of the accommodation & meals
Itinerary could be; * Sat circumnavigate Whakamaru * Sun Maraetai either dam to dam or around the bouys.
What's the feedback on this idea?
