King of the Rivers Run - Thames 56km
Start 8:30 Piako River Launch at Pipiroa boat ramp and either head up the Piako River to Ngatea or if their is a suitable ramp launch at Ngatea or start from the Pipiroa ramp.
Head towards the firth of Thames then back up the Waihou River under the iconic Kopu bridge stopping at the Turua boat ramp for lunch before continuing up to Paeroa finishing under the Puke Rd bridge. Their is a wonderful ramp area on the north east side of the Puke rd Bridge
This event would have to be set around the tides and weather for the best run
What do you guys think?

that looks like a great run Cam , I've often driven by and thought the river would be worth a run . couple of comments I'd make . although it is tidal to a point, running down stream with tide may be best . the break out in to the bay to come back up the other stream is a potential area of safety concern . it may be less problematic to contain the race in one system .
time . I would think most competitors would travel and do it as a day race ? so an allowance to travel, race and return home on the same day may be the go .

Great comments chilli, yes going out into the bay was my main concern too, If we choose a shorter run between Paeroa and the Turua boat ramp in either direction (about 30km) or if their is a suitable ramp closer to Kopu to allow it to be a bit longer, It will allow a mid-morning start and afternoon finish to allow people to get home same day.
I think Spring or summer would be a good time as it would be a great hot sunny weather day trip.

Looks like a good river run What ideas are there to assist with the road logistics?
