Interested in building a 12 to 16 foot moderately wide and with reasonable free board, boat for fun, on Brisbane and local rivers. The Bermudians seam moderately sea worthy. Also boats of this type seam to be used on the Waikato. (hope that's how its spelt) With some success and what looks like a lot of fun by the looks of it. I'm hoping for something that can be built reasonably easily. Maybe plywood or planks over a frame. Or a combination. I stopped on Bribie Island (small coastal island north of Brisbane) over the weekend and got talking with a chap with a 16 foot motorized canoe, and that got me thinking.Room for me, and the boss, or the kids. Something like i have in mind. (If it yours. Sorry to use your picture without asking) Attachments:

Being in Australia you could have a look at Ross Lillstones Flint design. Couple of Kiwis have built them and get reasonable speeds out of them with seagulls. A design I and others have built here in NZ is John Wellsfords Seagull at 15.5 Ft. Mine goes well particularly two up on a Silver C. If you want to go longer he has stretch this design out to near 18 Ft called Mollymawk. If you are a skilled wood worker you could have a look at the Dolly Varden by Weston Farmer. This was designed for small outboard use and has very little rocker a good thing in a small outboard powered boat. Yet another design to look at is Phill Bolgers Sea hawk. Drop the wood sizes to 6mm bottom and sides and a skin of dynel to help the abrasion on the bottom.

Hi Grant, Thanks for the information, I have see the "Flint", and heard of the "Dolly Varden." But the others are new to me, so some internet crawling will be required. Thank You.

Maybe send an email to JC, as he's something of the expert on the flea

You'll have to contact him direct as he doesn't monitor this site
