Make sure all parts are spotlessly clean. If you hone the bore wash it in hot soapy water, and then oil it. Paint any parts before assembly. Check and clean all treads on bolts and nuts, also in block. Check all mating faces, I polish them on a piece of glass with 600 wet and dry and crc on it. When you assemble crank and crank case make sure all parts turn freely when torqued up. Gap rings to suit bore, I gap mine to 4 thou. I hope this helps. Maybe others will add some tips

Fit piston right way up. Raised crown toward longest end of crankshaft. Fit circlips in gudgeon pin so holes at bottom. I polish piston, shows up any potential problems next time I dismantle engine. I polish con rod, this helps to stop it cracking. I welcome any ideas or criticisms
