Has anybody got any thoughts on using foils? These were the key to breaking the world sailing speed record. Surely there's got to be some benefit?

I know rex just google "team NZ media day 5" and you can see a 72fter completely out of the water ! but not much good on the waikato with logs/sand bars leaves etc , I have plans for a 19fter in my head for the international bermudian class , but you are going to have to shed some weight first rex ! and get used to confined spaces and be sworn to secrecy and hide our surface props when coming to the finish line and change the fuel tank back to standard fuel , and hide the Nitro !More later !

Damn Ross does this mean I have to build a new boat. Another 20 footer. Hard enough convincing her indoors for last one.

I'm going to ask team NZ for the first 20 foot of one of the hulls of the ac72 , figger there will be some cheap boats going soon when the cups over and it would make a great boat ! Attachments:

Hi Tinker , what do you consider the correct width for a twenty footer , mine I'm cutting down the sides and the bottom is going to be 700mm -750mm which means its going to be lighter than 30 kg ! but I will add the 3mm ply to the bottom .And what has chilli dog come up with , someone has to beat graham in his plastic fantastic

700 is probably a good width. Just watch the height we have found the lenght can add a few problems when the chop at the end of the race is large. I was very happy to have higher sides. I only think you will save a little weight by lower sides. Be interesting to see if it makes much difference compared to having high sides. Weight does not seem to make a lot of difference to such long boats.

I could leave the dingy class. my boat was never purpose built for seagull racing and at 115kgs I'm certainly not . I'm very happy with my first race result / effort , but carrying 40 extra kilos and what that does to planning /speed compared to Graham makes it tough . I did so much enjoy the number of boats with similar speed in the run down into hamilton though , I'm sure it was a buzz for all those involved . The 20 ft or new bermuda class may be the better fit . either way ~ expect a new boat as for class the jury is still out .

Neither works when one has an unfinished house and ones family is still living in a bus. Patience is wearing thin after watching said house been built over a ten year period. So spending money on anything other then the house cops lots of flack
