Sounds like a cheap mod
What's the opinion on these?
Mount on the block or crankcase?
What's a the opinion on performance gains?

Should be heaps of performance gains, but gets away from seagull design a bit. I am sure I have seen a 2 1/2 with a chain saw carb, tuned pipe and possibly reeds that is quicker than a 4 1/2. Owned by Ian. I know that would have to be the fastest 21/2 around.

The problem with reeds for a Racing Seagull is that you have to use Seagull parts & that means only a reed block from a Seagull sport will fit that description & there are not many of those floating around.

I think that this topic and location is more on the lines of "Personal" interest. Not racing with "Rules".
No rules with a hobby motor............
Also the mod would be on the side of the cases with carb facing aft. Motor can be tilted as required. It would be side draft not updraft into the read block adapter which would mount to the boss modification/addition on the split cases.
Think about that.

I think you need to keep the discussion in context as to the racing rules as they apply where ever you are , other wise if your building a modern hobby race motor from a clean sheet you'd likely never consider a single seagull part in it's construction .
That a side , for seagull motor performance , if there is such a thing ;)there is a number of things to take into account , as pomme points out ans I agree should we not be focusing on what is real and practical i.e available and class legal ?
For me it's about detailing and optimising a mish mash of worn out old parts into the best performing combination that meet the standard rules , how ever I have great interest in the unlimited seagull motor builders and may venture there one day . But as I understand the two stroke motor works best when all is in balance as far I can work out , if it were the case of just bolting on a turbo to increase performance , wouldn't every small motor manufacturer have done that ? I'm an avid reader and consumer of ideas and look forward to more contributors ,but for me I'd prefer to see the engine discussion class or rule focused
