Has anyone tried one of these. And if they work where could i get one. On paper they would be a reliable asset. Attachments:

Ok Thanks Rex. I didnt know they came out in different colours for different motors. What colour would i need for a Century 100 and also o 102.

Bullet
Yes, there were different colours calibrated for different applications. They were very good for fixing the OMC floppy mag plate problem.
From memory, the brown module was for fixed ignition timing. Red was for OMC, other I can't recall off-hand
Suggest you experiment with the igniter module from a Victa mower. A little silver box. They are rather similar. Might pay to check the timing with a strobe. Maybe also run the motor for several hours to prove it's reliability.

I had a conversation with a guy who used to build hot saws for professional woodsman , he was adamant the longer spark promoted better combustion and advocated electronic ignition units many of the bermudian guys use electronic ignition flywheels , I have one I'm currently testing ; ) You'll have to see what ends up on the back of my boat , I don't even know yet .

I found out today that the brown module that i need is no longer. The next best thing would be the yellow one. Yellow Mini-tron - Replaces Transistor ignition modules as fitted to many Chain Saws. (For our standard "Atom Ignition Module" version, replacing a points & condensor setup see our 440-209 - W.Q.L.). For more information see our PDF catalogue, under "Electrical Ignition" Attachments:

Or theres this one as well. Sorry to be a pain fellas but i just want to make sure i get the correct one. Description: NOVA II - Transistorized ignition module. Operates well in any weather conditions & completely waterproof. Highly reliable / durable construction / high performance. Anti-kickback system / die cast aluminum housing. Widely used in 2 and 4 cycle gas engines. Suitable for 2 leg & 3 leg ignition coils in single cylinder engines. Not recommended for use on engines equipped with battery ignition or flywheels with multiple magnets. Any sought of feedback would be greatly appreciated. (Thanks) Attachments:

I'd go with the Victa mower module with 1x terminal, see how that goes, then decide from there

Well i ended up purchasing a twin terminal Module from my local mower shop today (Bynorm novaII module 440-465) The reason why i opted for a twin was because i can have a kill switch if i want. Both single and twin Modules are exactly the same as in firing and timing, but the twin needs to be earthed and it can be used as reverse polarity if needed as the single doesnt, the twin also has no kick back. Didnt take long to fit, And it now has a huge big blue spark now. Ive increased the plug gap and it starts so much easyer and runs so smooth. I managed to hook up my tacho and wound the idle down to 800rpms with no stalling thats how smooth its running. I will get another one and keep it in my spares kit, And they would be so easy to swap over out on the water thats for sure. A very cheap and effective mod that i recommend to anyone. Attachments:

so is that the nova II ? and have you just earthed it on the under side. this may sound stupid , but how does it know when to fire or does it send the spark based on the magnet position of the fly wheel

Both Nova I and II are the same in timing and fire rate. But the Nova II can be reversed polarity if need be and it has no kick back. The nova II has better waterproofing as well. And yes i have mounted the earth wire under the stator plate,Ive been trying to find a waterproof switch and a alloy or stainless bracket but everything is either plastic and normal metal these days. As for the spark rate, pretty much what you say Chilli. What it does is fire upon maximum voltage. As soon as the flywheel and coil reaches its maximum volts the Module triggers the HT Lead and spark plug. The module kit cost me $22.00
